Welcome, I’m Renou

I am a therapist and lecturer based in Guildford town centre, offering therapy to teenagers, young adults, professionals, and parents, both in person and online.

Many people come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally exhausted, or unsure of who they are becoming. You may be struggling with relationships, work pressures, family responsibilities, low self-esteem, anxiety, or a life transition that has left you feeling stuck. For young adults especially, life can sometimes feel like a constant pressure to have it all figured out.

I offer a warm, thoughtful, and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about what is happening in your life. I’m down-to-earth and have a sense of humour. Having been on my own journey for many years, I understand the joys and challenges of therapy from your perspective and consider myself ‘with you’ in this process rather than an ‘expert’ doing therapy ‘to’ you. Together, we can explore your experiences, make sense of difficult emotions, identify patterns that may no longer be serving you, and help you move towards the life you want to create.

I have particular experience supporting:

  • young adults navigating education, work, identity, and independence;

  • professionals experiencing stress and burnout;

  • parents balancing the competing demands of work, relationships, and family life;

  • clients facing significant life transitions.

Alongside my private practice, I work within a local university counselling service and I teach counselling skills to future therapists at a further education college. My work is informed by ongoing clinical practice, professional development and a commitment to evidence-informed counselling. You can find out more about this work below or at www.aboutme.com/renou

Professional Background

I am a BACP registered counsellor, counselling lecturer, and educator based in Guildford. Prior to training as a counsellor, I spent many years in business, entrepreneurship, and education.

Alongside private practice, I work within a local university counselling service and teach counselling skills to adult learners training to become practitioners at a further education college in Surrey. I am also undertaking postgraduate study in teaching and learning, with a focus on counsellor education and professional formation.

My professional interests sit at the intersection of counselling, education, and human development. I am interested in how people make sense of themselves and their experiences across periods of growth, transition, and change, and how healthy relationships can support wellbeing, learning, and personal development throughout the lifespan.

In clinical practice, I work with teenagers (14+), young adults, professionals, and parents, supporting clients experiencing anxiety, burnout, relationship difficulties, identity concerns, and significant life transitions. Much of my work focuses on the challenges associated with education, career development, emerging adulthood, parenthood, and the ongoing process of negotiating change and uncertainty.

My therapeutic approach is integrative and relational, informed by both clinical practice and my experience within educational settings. Working across counselling, education, and counsellor training provides a unique perspective on the emotional, relational, and developmental challenges people encounter as they learn, grow, and adapt to new stages of life.

My longer-term focus is on contributing to counsellor education through teaching, curriculum development, and research, helping to develop reflective, competent, and ethically grounded practitioners, for the benefit of their clients.

I welcome opportunities to connect with fellow practitioners, educators, and researchers who share an interest in counselling, learning, wellbeing, and human development. I am also open to referrals from other professionals.
